Training
in Cognitive Education, Instrumental Enrichment
and Mediated Learning
Q:
How long will training take?
A: Training in Mediated Learning is offered in the form of workshops,
seminars and lectures which focus on the theoritcal basis and practical
application of Mediated Learning in the role of cognitive development.
Training in Instrumental Enrichment encompasses Mediated Learning which
is one of the three applied systems of the method.
Training
for Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment Programme is conducted in an
intensive series of six Sessions. Each Session five days, totalling 210
hours of training. Sessions are spread over eighteen months, so that each
session is usually every three months.
Q.
What qualifications do I need?
A. No qualification is needed to participate in training. However, a certain
experience in the fields of education, psychology and/or allied therapies
is necessary. Applications are considered on individual merit.
Q.
Is there a final examination?
A. There is no final examination. Trainees are supported and encouraged
by an ICML consultant throughout training and beyond to ensure that they
have reached a suitably high standard of understanding of the theoretical
basis and the practical application of the programme.
Q:
Whilst I am training in Instrumental Enrichment can I practice the tasks?
A: Upon completion of Level l of Instrumental Enrichment, trainees are
expected and encouraged to use the materials with students as much as
possible between Sessions of training.
Q:
If I train in Instrumental Enrichment with the ICML will I be qualified
to work outside the UK?
A: Certified Instrumental Enrichment training has an internationally recognised
status.
Q.
When do we get our certificates?
A. There are two Sessions to each of the three Levels for training in
Instrumental Enrichment. Certificates are awarded after each Level of
training.
Q:
Who will supervise me when I start to use Instrumental Enrichment in my
working environment?
A: The ICML offer supervision and advice throughout and beyond training.
Q:
Can individuals with genetic/ organic disorders benefit from Cognitive
Education?
A: Yes. Given the correct quality and intensity of mediation, individuals
with genetic or organic disorders benefit enormously from a cognitive
based programme.
Q:
How can I use these methods in my profession/working environment?
A: The application of Instrumental Enrichment and the bridging process
allow any previous expertise of the trainee to embrace these methods and
incorporate them in his or her professional practice.
Q:
When would Mediated Learning be applicable and not Instrumental Enrichment?
A. Instrumental Enrichment is a structured programme of intervention.
Mediated Learning is an approach aiming at an increased quality of interaction
as applicable to all individuals in a learning context, regardless of
age or ability.
Q.
Why should Mediated Learning help the methods of intervention that I have
used for years?
A: Recognising and analysing the cognitive aspects of the learning process
brings about an awareness in the practitioner which then elevates his/her
own expertise into a more meaningful interaction.
Q.
What age should Mediated Learning be applied?
A. Mediated Learning applies to all ages, from new born babies and throughout
life.
Q.
How do I train in these methods?
A. The ICML offers training in Mediated Learning in addition to Instrumental
Enrichment training.

information and the ICML brochure is available on request.
